AMD says AI opportunity could reach $2 trillion by 2030, sees data center revenue doubling by 2027
AMD said at Citi’s 2026 Global TMT Conference on Sept. 8, 2026 that the artificial intelligence opportunity could reach $2 trillion by 2030, while the company expects its data center business to double by 2027 to roughly $70 billion in sales. Of that total, about $40 billion is expected to come from AI GPUs, with the rest tied to server CPUs. AMD also raised its estimate for the server CPU market to $220 billion by 2030, up from a previous $60 billion forecast. The company said it has secured $29 billion to $30 billion in purchase commitments and received the largest increase in capacity allocation among TSMC customers, though supply remains tight across wafers, HBM memory, advanced packaging and substrates. AMD added that MI450 will begin volume production shipments in the third quarter of 2026 and ramp further in the fourth quarter. CFO Jean Hu said the pace, scale and rise of AI are unprecedented. The company also named Meta, OpenAI and Anthropic as three major anchor customers.
